Member of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Varazdat Karapetyan today touched upon the operation of the Amulsar gold mine, the need for a new expert examination and the official investigation designated for head of the group leading an investigation into the Amulsar case Yura Ivanyan.

“Since an official investigation designated for head of the group leading an investigation into the Amulsar case Yura Ivanyan, let’s wait for the investigation to end. I support a professional solution to problems. The Ministry of Environment is considering the issue of a new Environmental Impact Assessment,” he said.

When asked how he assesses the work of the Investigative Committee, which hadn’t found grounds not to exploit the mine, Varazdat Karapetyan said the following: “Like many others, I also saw many problems when I read the report submitted by ELARD, and these problems were identified during the teleconference with the Prime Minister. I believe this was enough for us to understand that we have to look at the problem from other perspectives as well in order to understand the whole situation. I am certain that the government will make a more effective decision in regard to the Amulsar gold mine.”
