Non-extradition of former director of Armenia’s Judicial Acts Compulsory Enforcement Service Mihran Poghosyan from Russia has nothing to do with the relations between Russia and Armenia. This is what Armenia’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation Vardan Toghanyan told journalists at the National Assembly today.

“There have been, there are and there will be such cases. Generally speaking, extradition must comply with international laws and the national legislation of the particular country. First of all, Russia hasn’t rejected the extradition. If you read the press release of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, you will see that the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has addressed the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia for additional documents and justifications, meaning there is no final decision on extradition. There was also an appropriate explanation for the extradition of Mikayel Harutyunyan. He is a citizen of the Russian Federation, and by the Russian Constitution, he can’t be extradited,” he said.

As for the fact that the President of the Russian Federation congratulated Robert Kocharyan on his birthday and when asked if this can be viewed as support to the second President of Armenia during the trial taking place in Armenia, Toghanyan said this can’t be viewed as support because it is part of the domestic affairs of Armenia and he is unaware of any interference in Armenia’s domestic affairs.

Mihran Poghosyan is charged with use of official position and seizure and misuse of property in particularly large amounts through squander, which has led to grave consequences. Poghosyan was found and arrested in the Russian city of Petrozavodsk on April 19.
