The army and security forces took control of the situation in downtown Beirut, where pogroms and clashes between peaceful demonstrators and supporters of the Hezbollah and Amal movements had previously taken place, RIA Novosti reported referring to Al-Jadeed.

The army cut off the demonstrators from the supporters of Shiite parties with two cordons, preventing them from approaching each other in order to avoid clashes. Two camps throw stones and fire at each other. Insults on both sides are also heard. Some people have reportedly been injured.
