YEREVAN. – Statements about Soros foundation activities in Armenia were also made when Artur Vanetsyan was Director of the National Security Service (NSS). Lilit Makunts, head of the majority My Step faction in the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, stated this at the November 25 press conference in the NA, commenting on Vanetsyan's statement on the “threats” voiced by George Soros’ Open Society Foundations-Armenia office.

She ruled out the possibility that Vanetsyan and his then NSS did not take all the necessary measures toward the confirmation of this information and in case of obvious threats. "I am convinced that if Mr. Vanetsyan had come across an organization threatening the national security of the country, he would have taken all the necessary measures," Makunts said. "And if he has not taken such measures, then we must be sure that he has not seen such threats."

The MP added that Vanetsyan's statements were really unexpected, and she hoped that the former NSS director would answer all the questions of concern by journalists and the public.
