YEREVAN. – A Yerevan court of first instance today extended the detention of Karen Khachatryan, nephew of former State Revenue Committee (SRC) Chairman and former Minister of Finance Gagik Khachatryan, for another two months. Karen Khachatryan's lawyer Arman Makinyan said this in a conversation with journalists.

Karen Khachatryan's lawyers had filed a motion with the court to release him on bail.

The attorney noted that the decision was expected for them. "It is no secret what pressure there is on this criminal case," Makinyan said.

The lawyer said that the amount of alleged damage which Karen Khachatryan had caused to the state of is slightly more than 200 million drams, which have long been on transferred to the deposit account of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The attorney said that after getting familiarized with the aforesaid court decision, they will appeal to the Court of Appeal.

Karen Khachatryan was the head of the SRC's Department of Homeland Security, and he is accused of committing a large amount of misuse of funds.

His uncle, also former official Gagik Khachatryan, was also charged in this criminal case.
