YEREVAN. – Former residents of Artsvashen village of Armenia’s Gegharkunik Province are protesting today in front of the government building. They are demanding compensation for their lost homes.

Aragats Janoyan, a former resident of Artsvashen, said they demand a final solution to the issue.

“We demand a meeting with the prime minister; even if it’s not the prime minister, at least with Deputy Prime Minister Avinyan,” he said. “We met with the prime minister; nothing has changed. We also met with ministers, the mayor, the provincial governor, the deputy minister; everyone is aware of the problem. We want a solution to this problem: they either give compensation, or they don't. We have been deported from Artsvashen for 28 years. There is no question of financial aid, compensation; people's houses are collapsing. People were given 360,000 drams each; it's not even a refrigerator money. The case is frozen, the matter does not go forward."

They claim to live in inhumane conditions, and ask for their help.
