YEREVAN. – Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the opposition Bright Armenia party and the head of its parliamentary faction, explained why the party was discussing the issue of recalling Davit Khajakyan, the head of the opposition Luys faction at the Yerevan Council of Elders, from the latter.
“Yesterday we again started discussing, at the level of the governing council, the matter of rethinking Bright Armenia Party’s participation in the Yerevan Council of Elders; there is a question of our participation,” he said. “As you know, the Bright Armenia party has one representative at the Yerevan Council of Elders: Davit Khajakyan. And if the party's governing council decides that Davit Khajakyan should leave the Council of Elders, we will stop being represented in the Council of Elders. Therefore, we will not bear any accountability for the activities there."
According to Marukyan, the thing is that Bright Armenia is accountable for the activities of the Luys faction at the Council of Elders, but it has no influence on this faction.
"We get thousands of mails," Marukyan added. “The media team of the party follows the reactions of the public, and corresponding reports are presented to the governing council. We want to say to citizens, 'We hear you, your voices reach us,' and yes, we are naturally discussing steps that stem from it. We had to respond somehow after the speeches at yesterday's meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders; this is that response, which will also have a decision by the governing council."
