A group of experts of the UNDP today held discussions on certain issues related to Armenia’s Strategy on Judicial and Legal Reforms with Deputy Prosecutor General Davit Melkonyan today, reports the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia.

The Deputy Prosecutor General stated that the programs and initiatives for increasing effectiveness of prosecution and the judiciary are becoming more goal-oriented now when Armenia has actively launched the process of implementing the Strategy on Judicial and Legal Reforms approved by the Government of Armenia.

The members of the expert group stated that the aim of their fact-finding mission for providing methodological and expert assistance to the sector-specific reforms is to clarify the notions and expectations of the beneficiary authorities in specific directions.

During the meeting, the parties particularly discussed the development of new criteria for appointing prosecutors, the specification of professional, moral-psychological requirements and requirements for integrity and mechanisms for realization. They also touched upon the process of digitization of criminal justice within the scope of introduction of the electronic justice system.

In this regard, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia stated that the Prosecutor General’s Office is taking active steps to introduce the electronic system for assessment of prosecutors and that the digitization of criminal procedure will be carried out alongside the already earmarked process of adoption of the new Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
