For the first time in over 200 years, Notre Dame Cathedral will not have a midnight Mass for Christmas, Daily Mail reported.

"This is the first time since the French Revolution that there will be no midnight Mass," cathedral rector Patrick Chauvet said.

Chauvet noted that even during World War I there was even a Christmas service. According to him, the Cathedral was closed at Christmas only once, after 1789, when the French revolutionaries turned it into 'a temple of reason.'

This year the Mass will be held in the church of Saint-Germain-l'Oserua in the center of Paris.
