What broke teachers in Armenia down was the decision that only those with degrees in teaching can teach. This decision was coercive. This is what ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan declared during the hearings entitled “Educational Reforms: Upcoming Strategic Challenges” organized by the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly today.

According to her, real professionals were dismissed and replaced by people who had diplomats, but suspicious background education.

“I respect many teachers, but Armenia has many illiterate teachers. They say the public chooses higher education, not arts and crafts, but I object and say that they choose to have diplomas, not higher education because they know that they can teach more children to grow up and become like Vardan Ghukasyan (ex-mayor of Gyumri-ed.),” Kharatyan said.

The people in parliament gave rounds of applause after her speech and her criticism of Ghukasyan.
