YEREVAN. - The opposition Bright Armenia Party (BAP) governing board has decided to continue its participation in the Yerevan Council of Elders, and represented by its only member, Davit Khajakyan. The party's governing board issued a statement in this regard.

On December 17, Bright Armenia party chairman Edmon Marukyan and vice-chairperson Mane Tandilyan announced that the BAP governing board was considering the issue of recalling Khajakyan from the Yerevan Council of Elders because of some considerations.

As per today’s statement, considering the public reaction to the preservation of Davit Khajakyan's mandate and the fact that the opposition Luys faction at the Yerevan Council of Elders is an alliance of two sovereign parties and each has its own rhetoric, the BAP governing board finds that as a result of open public discussion, the scope of accountability is now clear.

Accordingly, the members of the Luys faction are in charge of implementing the aforesaid alliance's program, but representatives of the two parties are free in their approaches to separate initiatives and political rhetoric, and the given political unit bears political accountability for each member of the council of elders.
