Ankara approved a memorandum of military cooperation signed with the Government of National Accord of Libya.

The memo was signed by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, RIA Novosti reported.

It was decided to approve the memorandum of security and military cooperation between the Turkish Government and the Libyan Government of National Accord, signed on November 27 in Istanbul, the document said.

The Turkish parliament ratified a memorandum of military cooperation signed with the government in Tripoli last Saturday. Earlier, Erdogan announced the possibility of sending the Turkish military to Libya if Government of National Accord appeals to Turkey with this request.

Erdogan and the head Fayez al-Sarraj, controlling only part of the country, signed memorandums of cooperation in the military sphere and of mutual understanding on maritime zones at the end of November. On December 5, the memorandum on maritime zones was ratified by the Turkish parliament. Greece, Egypt and parliament sitting in eastern Libya have called Turkish-Libyan memoranda illegal and invalid.

After the overthrow and assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya virtually ceased to function as a single state. Dual power reigns in the country now.
