Seven judges of the Armenian Constitutional Court made a statement amid the recent developments on the head of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan.

According to article 9 of the constitutional law, which presupposes the inviolability of a CC judge, requirements are also established for actions against a judge in criminal proceedings. These actions are performed with the maximum secrecy of pre-trial proceedings, respect for the authority and independence of the judge and the judiciary, excluding any direct or indirect interference with the judge.

Judges urge the competent authorities to strictly abide by the above requirements of the constitutional law when acting within criminal proceedings against the CC chair Hrayr Tovmasyan.

"Regardless of the situation, we work in a natural rhythm, remaining faithful to the high rank of judge of the Constitutional Court, continuing to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution, acting independently and impartially," Alvina Gyulumyan, Arevik Petrosyan, Arman Dilanyan, Hrant Nazaryan, Ashot Khachatryan, Araik Tunyan, Felix Tokhyan wrote in a statement.

As reported earlier, Tovmasyan was charged on December 27 and is accused of fraud with real estate during his tenure as Justice Minister. Hrayr Tovmasyan told reporters that he was not surprised by the accusation - six months ago he was “warned” that if he didn’t resign, he would be in the dock.
