YEREVAN. - Caucasus online cable providing Armenia with internet was damaged  on Thursday night.

Repair works were completed by 9:00 a.m. Yerevan time, Anush Begloyan, spokesperson for Armentel company informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. Taking into account frequent damages of external channels over recent 20 days, Armentel will probably reserve an additional channel.

It is the third incident registered over recent 22 days. Earlier three out of four cables connecting Armenia to the global network were damaged in Georgia twice.

The last damage cut off majority of the Armenian internet users. Three days later Georgian sources reported it was caused by Hayastan Shakaryan, a 75 years old woman of Armenian origin. Georgian Internal Ministry said the woman was looking for copper near the village of Ksani on March 28 and damaged fiber optic cable.

The Armenian officials responsible for information security are still silent. Neither National Security Council, nor other institution issued any statement commenting on these events

Presently Armenia is connected to the internet through 6 foreign channels – four in Georgia and two in Iran.
