Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan believes that the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union need to jointly resolve issues of ensuring digital sovereignty and data protection, RIA Novosti reported.

Speaking at the international digital forum in Alma-Ata, he referred to the European Union, which adopted a data protection regulation, according to which only sites and platforms that protect user data of union citizens can work in the EU.

According to Sargsyan, the Eurasian Union member states should create their own ecosystem and jointly manage the digital transformation.

“We should not strive to copy what transnational companies such as Alibaba or Amazon have done, because it is obvious that we are not competitive, but we must develop our own system ... None of our countries can independently implement their own digital sovereignty. The only chance is to make it a Eurasian project,” he said.
