The fact that the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan asked to keep confidentiality during the recent meeting was initially a wrong decision. This is what President of the Assembly of Armenians of Azerbaijan NGO Grigory Aivazyan told reporters today.

According to him, an important topic such as the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can’t be kept secret from the peoples of the two countries.

The president of the non-governmental organization also stated that, in essence, Armenia has already refused the previous agenda and is trying to advance its own.

“As far as I understand, the new strategy is that Karabakh has to return to the negotiating table,” Aivazyan said, adding that what was important for the Armenian side during the recent talks was to enshrine the status-quo. “Both sides, in essence, are killing time since Azerbaijan is getting ready for the February 9 elections, and the Azerbaijani authorities don’t want to see any escalation on the line of contact since the result will be unacceptable for them. I recommend not expecting any radical change in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, but I also can’t rule out the likelihood of escalation on the border due to the season,” he said.
