Once again, the Government of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) is calling on Alexander Kananyan and Mher Poghosyan (Poghosyan has joined Kananyan) to end their hunger strike, not put their health at risk and show active participation in the efforts to set up the commission. This is stated in the statement issued by the Government.

“The Government of the Republic of Artsakh, taking into consideration the importance of the issue, deems it necessary to inform the public about the steps that are being taken to reduce the potential negative impact on the environment during construction and exploitation of small hydroelectric stations and to implement the agreements that have been reached.

It is within the scope of this that the Government, in a short period, set up an independent professional commission that will comprise specialists from the Ministry of Nature Protection and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Industrial Infrastructures, as well as the Public Services and Economic Competition Regulatory Commission (upon consent).

The Government has also addressed its colleagues of the Republic of Armenia with the request to be engaged in the commission of experts in the fields of nature protection and hydro energy, and as a result, two independent experts of the Ministries of Environment and Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia will arrive in Artsakh today.

A couple of days ago, the Government of Artsakh had addressed Alexander Kananyan, who has declared a hunger strike, with the request to nominate three members of the commission and is waiting for recommendations.

Currently, construction is terminated, and as announced earlier, it will resume only after the professional commission gives a conclusion.
