Resident of Karvachar of Shahumyan Region in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic), political scientist Alexander Kananyan has stopped his hunger strike. This is what Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Artsakh Artak Beglaryan wrote on his Facebook page.

“I’m glad that the talks between Alexander Kananyan and the government are finally over. As a result, the professional commission convened its first session today, and Alexander announced the end of his hunger strike a short while ago. I assume Mher Poghosyan will also stop the hunger strike,” Beglaryan wrote.

The Ombudsman also stated that he will continue to support the study of nature protection issues and related issues and dispel the concerns within the scope of his powers and responsibility as a human and citizen.

Alexander Kananyan declared a hunger strike on January 21 with the demand to stop construction of small hydroelectric stations next to the yard of his house, and on January 27, resident of Stepanakert Mher Poghosyan also declared that he was going to support Alexander Kananyan.

Construction of the hydroelectric stations has been stopped. The Government of Artsakh has assured that construction won’t resume until the professional commission gives a relevant conclusion.
