The Russian State Duma has voted in favor of expanding the scope of persons entitled to acquire citizenship of the Russian Federation through an accelerated procedure. The bill will help families reunite and engage additional labor resources in the Russian Federation and has already been adopted in the first reading, reports RG.

The Russian government has offered to grant, through a simplified procedure, Russian citizenship to all foreigners whose children already have Russian passports and have attained the age of 18. As Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Zubov clarified during the parliamentary session, currently, the rule only applies to the parents of adults who are have temporary incapacity.

Zubov emphasized that entry into force of the law (the law will enter into force 90 days after its promulgation) will permit the creation of suitable conditions for families to reunite and will have a positive impact on the labor market in the Russian Federation.
