We are a couple of 100 meters away from a process that historians will evaluate, and I don’t want to touch upon that process today. This is what President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan said in his speech at the festive event dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the Constitutional Court today.

“This period hasn’t been an easy period for us. There has been criticism that was appropriate and inappropriate, and we have been criticized by professionals and non-professionals. We have truly learned from our mistakes,” the president of the Constitutional Court said, adding that even today, the members of the Constitutional Court aren’t working in an easy period.

Hrayr Tovmasyan read seven points about the future actions of the members of the Constitutional Court, including the following:

1. The Constitutional Court is an apolitical institution, and it is not allowed to verify the degree of political confidence in the judiciary.

2. The dependent judges, those who are dependent or afraid of the political authorities, are evil for their families and our State.

3. In terms of the problems in the legal and judicial systems, each of us, as an individual and as an institution, has made a contribution.

4. Independence isn’t served to anyone on a silver platter, and this concerns both people and states and institutions.

5. Reforms in the legal system and the judiciary are an imperative for us.

6. The 21st century is the century of states that will find the path to modernization of a state more quickly and effectively, and this is our task.

7. A relevant atmosphere is necessary for any reform.”

Getting back to the 24th anniversary of the Constitutional Court, Tovmasyan congratulated the judges of the Constitutional Court and wished that they remain proud.
