The draft amendments to the Constitution will be put to a referendum after the draft is signed by the President of Armenia, and it won’t be forwarded to the Constitutional Court. This is what head of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Lilit Makunts told reporters today.

“Organizational activities will be carried out after the decision is approved by the President of Armenia. The decision won’t be forwarded to the Constitutional Court.

The time limits may vary, depending on the day the President signs the decision. The referendum will take place in the period between late March and April 5,” she said.

When asked if the faction is certain that the President will sign the decision, Makunts gave an affirmative answer.

Reporters asked if the agreement was reached during the Prime Minister’s meeting with the President, to which Makunts said the presses were informed that the issue of the Constitutional Court was discussed during the meeting.

Touching upon the call of the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, she stated that the faction will consider it and let the public know what it is planning to do.

She stated that the situation concerning the Constitutional Court and the paths for solving the issue were presented during the parliamentary speaker’s meeting with ambassadors. She added that the faction has considered the issue of vacancies of seven judges following the referendum.
