The ongoing tension in the Middle East serves as a basis to say that the big global players aren’t interested in violating the status-quo in the South Caucasus. This is what Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Turkologist Ruben Safrastyan told reporters today.

He noted that Turkey is also actively engaged in the military and political processes in Syria, Libya and the Eastern Mediterranean, and therefore, it is safe to claim that Ankara won’t venture, including in the direction of Karabakh through Baku, taking into consideration the fact that this may entail a threat of a military clash with Russia.

“Ankara doesn’t have the potential to conduct military operations on several fronts, and Azerbaijan won’t unleash large-scale military operations in Karabakh without Turkey’s support and the consent of great powers,” the analyst added and explained that the recent meeting of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan also didn’t lead to any serious changes.
