YEREVAN. – I have spoken many times about the importance of establishing municipal police, and I urge the factions to lobby this issue in the National Assembly. Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan said this today at a meeting of the council of elders while discussing the issue of extending the use of service parking lots.

According to him, the municipality does not have the legislative power to charge more for the number of cars that exceed the original bids.

"If there is a law, the city authorities will have mechanisms to act, which means that the municipality will also bear responsibility," he added.

Although several council members, including from the ruling coalition, opposed the respective bill, it was passed.
