YEREVAN. – The question is not whether or not Armenia needs a national air carrier, but rather in creating a competitive structure. Tatevik Revazian, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia, stated this in response to the question of National Assembly (NA) opposition Prosperous Armenia faction member Mikayel Melkumyan during the February 13 NA sitting debates on the issue of ratification of the air communication agreement between the Armenian and Jordanian governments.

She noted, in particular, that everyone would like to fly with their national airline planes, but the reality must be taken into account.

"Are we ready to have an air carrier that will fly with empty planes? Are we ready to cover those expenses?” Revazian asked and added: "First of all, it is necessary to answer these questions."

At the same time, she noted that if we look at what is happening in the world in this field, we can see that the competition is intensifying.

"In the next five years, Europe will become more like America in the sense that there will be fewer airlines," Tatevik Revazian explained. "If you want to compete, you have to have 200-300 planes."
