US military spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett said the US launched an air strike against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan, NBC reported.

According to his tweet, this was the first US Taliban strike in 11 days.

The Taliban fighters "were actively attacking an [Afghan National Security Forces] checkpoint. This was a defensive strike to disrupt the attack," he said.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump has confirmed he had a phone talk with the Taliban leader.

According to him, it was a good talk. The US and the Taliban share a common interest in establishing peace in Afghanistan, he added.
