The working visit of third President of Armenia, President of the Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to the Kingdom of Belgium has kicked off, as reported on the Facebook page of third President of Armenia.

Among the members of the delegation led by Serzh Sargsyan are Armen Ashotyan, member of the Supreme Body of the Republican Party of Armenia and Executive Director of Luys Foundation Davit Harutyunyan and member of the council of the political party Lilit Beglaryan.

During the visit, Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with President of the European People’s Party (EPP), former president of the Council of Europe Donald Tusk in Brussels.

“Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the cordial reception and congratulated Donald Tusk on being elected president of the European People’s Party and wished him success, after which the interlocutors attached importance to the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between the EU and Armenia in 2017 in Brussels.

At the request of the president of the European People’s Party, Serzh Sargsyan presented the latest developments of domestic politics in Armenia. The growing and effective cooperation with the Republican Party of Armenia within the scope of the European People’s Party and the future actions were touched upon. Donald Tusk and Serzh Sargsyan exchanged views on regional issues and challenges.”

Serzh Sargsyan emphasized the importance of the international partnership from the perspective of the development of democracy in Armenia and the strengthening of regional stability. “The risks of populism for real democracy were touched upon. Serzh Sargsyan emphasized that any change must be made within the scope of the Constitution and exclusively legal procedures, through maximum involvement of relevant specialized institutions and based on the conclusions of experts.”
