YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: "As far as I understood, the Abovyan mayor's [criminal] case and the charge relate to illegal construction toward which the mayor has shown inaction. So if that article were applied proportionally to Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, the precautionary measure would not be [a signature bond] not to leave [the country], but they would arrest [him] on the spot,” said Davit Khajakyan, head of the [opposition] Luys Faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders.

Why? "Because (...) when there is no permit whatsoever but construction is being carried out, should they should have arrested Marutyan on the spot because it was done with the permission of the city authorities (...)."

What are you going to do? “There is a problem of bias of law enforcement here. It is obvious that they are again bringing cases in line with their political taste within the framework of selective justice.”

Can you file a report to law enforcement against Marutyan? “Yes, we can. But our steps go to, reach the prosecutor's office, or the investigating body, and stop; and the examples are not few.”
