The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan ruled to arrest businessman Samvel Mayrapetyan. The Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia informed this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Mayrapetyan had been declared wanted, and a decision was to turn the amount that was paid as a personal guarantee into state income.
According to the SIS, Samvel Mayrapetyan, a defendant in a criminal case, did not appear before the body conducting the proceedings at the call of this body. And the SIS filed a petition with the court to have Mayrapetyan arrested as a precautionary measure.
On January 17, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) decided to apply an interim measure in the case of Samvel Mayrapetyan, and instructed the Armenian government to provide him with urgent medical care. In addition, the ECtHR prioritized Mayrapetyan's case, and requested that the lawyers submit their appeal much earlier than previously required.
Samvel Mayrapetyan is charged with assisting in taking a bribe.
