YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: The Special Investigation Service [(SIS)] and the Ministry of Justice have jointly initiated amendments to the Law on the Special Investigation Service.

The draft essentially proposes to limit the scope of powers of the RA Prosecutor General.

It is proposed that the investigators of the RA Special Investigation Service carry out the investigations into crimes committed by senior officials of the Republic of Armenia, the persons performing public service, the offenses related to their official position, as well as under Articles 149, 150, 1541, 1542, 1549, 310.1, 314.2, 314.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia:.

And so, this is an attempt to ease and clarify the functions of the SIS, whereas the prosecutor can make decisions to send some cases to the SIS proceedings, only in limited cases.
