The president of Ecuador, Lenin Moreno, has declared a state of emergency because of coronavirus and urged Ecuadorians to exercise civic vigilance, TASS reported.

According to him, all state services, except law enforcement officers, doctors, and rescuers, will stop working in the country from Tuesday.

Already at midnight on Tuesday, transport links between cities will stop for two weeks. An exception will be made only for private vehicles serving companies that are allowed to continue working, as well as for physicians.

Compliance with restrictions will be monitored by the police, the armed forces, and local authorities.
