YEREVAN. – Regardless of the coronavirus, the main consumption is always in the large chains, the large importers have the major impact, whereas the products have always been a little more expensive in small shops. Gegham Gevorgyan, Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC),  stated this during a meeting with journalists in the government today.

"There is no need for carrying out total oversight," he also told reporters. “But if you have cases, give [them to] us; we have a lot of restraint tools." He added that, very often, unreliable information creates panic.

Gevorgyan assured that there is no reason to raise the price of any commodity in Armenia unless it is conditioned by the fluctuation of the US dollar’s exchange rate.

"We are currently in litigation over the price of gasoline," the SCPEC chief noted. “We are now expecting reduction in gasoline prices outside, which will reflect also on Armenia after a certain period. (…). Soon we will have a statement on the forecasts for gasoline price—toward reduction."
