By the order of the Chief of the Republic of Armenia (RA) Police Arman Sargsyan, Gevorg Hakobyan, Head of the Gegharkunik Regional Department of the Police, has been dismissed in this capacity and added to the list of Police human resources, shamshyan.com reported.

By another order of the RA Chief of Police, Tigran Petrosyan, Deputy Head of the Gegharkunik Regional Department of the Police, has been appointed Acting Head of this department.

According to ArmLur.am, the sacking of Gegharkunik Police Chief Gevorg Hakobyan is connected with the scandalous incidents that occurred last week in Gavar town.

Later, in a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am, the Police confirmed the information about Hakobyan's dismissal, but did not say whether he had been fired according to his own letter of resignation, and whether it was related to the recent events in Gavar.

A shootout took place in Gavar on April 2, between a group of people from this town and some residents of Noratus village. As a result, Zorik Paronikyan, an investigator, and a young resident of Noratus sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Four others were wounded, two of whom were taken to a Yerevan hospital and the other two—to Gavar hospital. But some hours after the incident, the relatives of the dead entered the Gavar hospital—despite police presence there, broke windows and doors, and stabbed two of the aforesaid wounded—to exact revenge—in the hospital room, as well as one other person. The investigation into the respective criminal case is still in progress.
