My Step ruling bloc MP Vladimir Vardanyan on Thursday spoke about the legislative initiative that criminalizes direct or public incitement to genocide. 

He, being one of the authors of the bill, noted that the current Criminal Code does not punish such a crime, while Armenia has obligations in accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.

Thus, according to this bill, people who, for example, are accused of committing genocide in Rwanda or in the north of Iraq against the Yezidis, will not be able to seek political asylum in Armenia.

After some discussion, this legislative initiative received a positive conclusion from the parliament's standing committee on State and Legal Affairs.
