The factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) have issued a statement on the statement made by three Members of the European Parliament on the construction of a new highway connecting the Republic of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia.

The statement particularly states the following:

“On June 10, the European Parliament’s Standing Rapporteurs on Armenia and Azerbaijan and the head of the delegation issued a joint statement on the construction of a new highway connecting the Republic of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia.

We attach great importance to the actions that are taken to protect human rights in different countries around the world, and with the construction of the new road connecting the Republic of Artsakh with the Republic of Armenia, we reaffirm our support to such efforts.

We also reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Artsakh to the peaceful settlement of the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group and attach importance to the need for full participation of the official Stepanakert in all phases of the negotiations.

At the same time, we state the fact that the aforementioned statement by the three Members of the European Parliament is strictly subjective and biased, and as experience has shown, such approaches have always had a negative impact on the efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability in our region, for which the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group have been making for years.

What also attests to the subjective approach of the aforementioned Members of the European Parliament is the fact that they have never responded to the aggressive and Armenophobic policy of Azerbaijan.

We call on parliamentary institutions and public and political figures to condemn any similar action, by strictly observing the norms and principles of international law.
