YEREVAN. – There is no and cannot be a political decision to apply to the National Assembly to strip [opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader] MP [and business tycoon] Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity. Gor Abrahamyan, Adviser to the Prosecutor General, stated about this in response to a question from Armenian News-NEWS.am.

"The RA [Republic of Armenia] Prosecutor General petitioning to the National Assembly to get a consent to prosecute an MP and deprive him of liberty is not a political process. It is exclusively legal, and is conditioned only by the facts obtained, sufficient evidence.

At the moment, an investigation is underway into specific criminal cases. The court proceedings will be decided on the course of that, and based on the fact that the evidence obtained is sufficient,” Abrahamyan said.
