There is no political order. Law-enforcement authorities have certain cases that need to be revealed. This is what head of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Lilit Makunts told reporters today, touching upon the criminal cases related to leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan and his statement that the criminal cases are made up and are based on a political order.

“I believe the opposite is taking place now, and one gets the impression that an attempt is being made to hinder the actions of the law-enforcement authorities, which are working at ease,” Makunts said, adding that an attempt is being made to politicize the criminal case.

When asked if there aren’t too many things that coincide, meaning criminal cases were instituted after Gagik Tsarukyan declared that the government has to resign, Makunts said the following: “I strongly believe, and the recent press releases show that there was a certain outflow of information from the law-enforcement system that certain members of the Prosperous Armenia Party or even the leader of the political party learned about, and the first step to defend them was to make a political statement that they could view as a political process or political influence. It’s not by chance that Tsarukyan’s statement was immediately followed by the press release of the Prime Minister’s spokesperson. The events that followed showed that the Prosperous Armenia Party had access to some information and that an attempt is being made to politicize the legal procedures,” she said.
