Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan today told reporters that Prosecutor General of Armenia Artru Davtyan has submitted to him a petition to deprive leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan of liberty and institute criminal prosecution against him.

“Taking into consideration the events of the past few days and the issues that have sparked the public’s attention, I would like to be the first to declare that a short while ago, the Prosecutor General of Armenia submitted two petitions to the Speaker of the National Assembly, including a petition for consent to institute criminal prosecution against deputy of the National Assembly Gagik Tsarukyan and a petition for consent to deprive deputy of the National Assembly Gagik Tsarukyan of liberty,” Mirzoyan said.

The parliamentary speaker informed that the Staff of the National Assembly has received the specified petitions and that they will be considered during the regular session tomorrow.

Touching upon the statement by deputies of Prosperous Armenia Party that the PAP leader is being politically persecuted by the authorities, the parliamentary speaker said this is unequivocally a legal procedure that had been launched a long time ago.
