The United States and China will allow four weekly flights between the two countries, Reuters reported referring to the US Department of Transportation.

The US government still hopes that China will agree to fully restore US rights to fly under a bilateral aviation agreement, the US Department of Transportation said in a revised air traffic regulations with China on Monday.

“As the Chinese government allows more flights by U.S. carriers, we will reciprocate,” it said.

Washington has earlier said it would ban Chinese passenger air carriers from flying to the US, putting pressure on Beijing to allow US airlines to resume flights.

China then announced that it would ease the COVID-19 restrictions and allow more foreign air carriers to fly to the country.

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines had had an intention to restart daily passenger flights to China in June but changed their plans because of the absence of government approval.
