A political party is banned upon a decision of the Constitutional Court. This is what deputy of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gevorg Petrosyan told reporters in front of the Yerevan court of general jurisdiction today, responding to a journalist who said that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the political party must be banned.

“Nikol Pashinyan doesn’t have the power to ban the Prosperous Armenia Party. He should read the relevant article of the Constitution. Who is Nikol Pashinyan to ban our political party? He is a temporary figure, but the Prosperous Armenia Party will continue to exist,” he said.

During the question-and-answer session in parliament today, Pashinyan said the following: “In 2017, I drafted a bill according to which the political parties having falsified elections and given electoral bribes in a coordinated manner shall be banned. Unfortunately, my fellow deputies didn’t agree to place the bill into circulation. Perhaps we should think about this. I’m expressing an idea.”
