The court hearing over the petition to arrest Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan ended a short while ago at Yerevan court of general jurisdiction under the chairmanship of Judge Robert Papoyan, and the decision will be announced this Sunday.

Samvel Dilbandyan, one of Tsarukyan’s attorneys, told reporters that the petition is unlawful and groundless. “My fellow attorneys and I submitted all the objections. I believe the court will be at its high level and will definitely deny the petition,” he said.

Gagik Tsarukyan is charged with giving electoral bribes, but doesn’t accept the charge and says the case against him is phony.

On June 16, the National Assembly of Armenia approved the two petitions of Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan to strip Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity and deprive him of his liberty.
