Acting Bolivian President Jeanine Anez signed a law to hold elections on September 6, but said she was doing so under pressure from other candidates, AFP reported.
"I have received pressure demanding elections on September 6, that is, in the midst of the pandemic. I have a country suffering and many politicians and authorities demanding elections as soon as possible," she said in a recorded message.
Snap presidential elections in Bolivia were planned to be held on May 3. However, it was decided to postpone it amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
On May 1, the Bolivian parliament passed a law on holding presidential elections until August 3, but Anez and some of her supporters continued to insist on the need to postpone the vote again.
