The press conference of the parliamentary faction of the opposition Bright Armenia Party (BAP) will take place Wednesday in the National Assembly. BAP MP Taron Simonyan on Tuesday informed this, adding that at this press conference, they will answer all the questions of the media.
To note, the majority My Step faction in parliament on Monday passed the draft amendments to the Constitution, according to which the powers of the Constitutional Court judges who have been in office for more than 12 years shall be terminated, the other judges shall continue to serve until 12 years are up as judges of the Constitutional Court.
In addition, it is envisaged that the term of office of the serving president of the Constitutional Court shall be terminated, after which a new president of the Constitutional Court shall be elected.
My Step, however, voted against the sending of this bill to the Constitutional Court to consider its constitutionality.
On the same day, the parliamentary faction of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) launched a signature campaign to petition to the Constitutional Court. The PAP also asked the BAP to join this petition.
