Touching upon the constitutional amendments, head of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Lilit Makunts today told reporters that 24 hours after promulgation of the signature by the President of Armenia, the parliamentary speaker can also promulgate the results of the vote of MPs, and the vote will enter into force 24 hours after the results are promulgated.

Asked if the authorities have their candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court who will replace the outgoing judges, Makunts said the following: “The judges of the Constitutional Court need to be nominated by the government, the President of Armenia and the General Assembly of Judges. This is an issue that is not within the domain of the My Step faction.”

Asked how the lives of citizens of Armenia will change after the replacement of the old judges, Makunts said the following: “The authorities have declared that, in spite of the fight against the coronavirus, they will not stop solving the issues on the agenda, including the judicial-legal reforms agenda. Since we couldn’t solve the issue related to the Constitutional Court through a referendum, we declared that we would continue to find paths, and we did.”

Makunts added that when citizens of Armenia made a decision to have a new Constitution through a referendum in 2015, this implies that constitutional institutions need to comply with the models prescribed by the Constitution, and it is the duty of the authorities to ensure implementation of those models.
