Commenting on the situation surrounding the application of deputies of the National Assembly of Armenia for the Constitutional Court to examine the adoption of constitutional amendments by the parliament, first Ombudsman of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan told reporters that 26 signatures are enough for the Constitutional Court to consider the application.

The petition was launched by Prosperous Armenia Party. Just recently, it was announced that MP Tigran Urikhanyan will also join the petition, and he became the 26th MP who signed. However, for a long time now, 27 has been stated as one fifth of the number of deputies of the current convocation of the National Assembly.

“There are 132 deputies, and as a matter of fact, this is a violation since there have to be 131 deputies, meaning one fifth of deputies who have the right to apply to the Constitutional Court is 26.4. If we round it up, one fifth is 26, not 27. This means that if one fifth has the right to apply, and since there can’t be .4 people, there are enough signatures,” Larisa Alaverdyan stated.
