Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan posted the following on his Facebook page and photos:

“On July 13, 2020, Azerbaijan targeted and shelled the Chinari village of the Tavush Province of Armenia.

The Office of the Human Rights Defender received alarms from the residents and head of Chinari village saying that the Azerbaijani side has released about a dozen projectiles and damaged houses in the village.

The Office of the Human Rights Defender received photos taken after the shelling that show the damage caused to the house of one of the villagers. There was another case when the roof of a house was damaged, and children were inside the house during the shelling.

Right after the alarms were sounded, the Human Rights Defender recorded the official statement of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia stating that the Azerbaijani armed forces had released 7 projectiles from a mortar of 82 mm caliber and 3 projectiles a mortar of 120 mm caliber towards the Chinari village.

The alarms sent to the Human Rights Defender, the official statements by Armenia’s state bodies and the news on social media show that the target was a peaceful settlement in Armenia, there is a real danger to the lives and health of peaceful civilians, as well as damage caused to property.

The Human Rights Defender continues to be in direct contact with the residents of the villages of the Tavush Province of Armenia and the administrative bodies of those villages and strictly condemns the shelling of a settlement in Armenia.

This is absolutely condemnable, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 23, the UN Secretary-General had called on immediately stopping armed conflicts in all parts of the globe due to the coronavirus.

These records will also be summed up in the prescribed manner and will be forwarded to international organizations in a new report. The Human Rights Defender will also issue an additional press release.”
