During a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am, President of the British-Armenian Community Council Arman Abrahamyan said the Armenian Community Council of the United Kingdom had received information about the Azerbaijanis’ protest in front of the Embassy of Armenia in the UK two days before the protest.

After the Council learned about this, it teamed up with the Armenian Apostolic Church and contacted various Armenian non-governmental organizations operating in the UK and reported on the protest that was being organized.

“We gathered near the Embassy of Armenia and stood in front of the Azerbaijani protesters. We held our demonstration in support of our homeland,” Abrahamyan stated, adding that in spite of the rather moderate approach of the members of the Armenian community, the Azerbaijanis were very irritated and tried to provoke a conflict and beat the Armenians during the demonstration.

“One moment an Azerbaijani approached me and tried to steal my poster, after which a brawl began. The police interfered and separated us. The poster stated that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is a corrupt official. Interestingly, there were many posters, the national flags of Armenia and Karabakh and posters stating that Azerbaijan has provoked another escalation, but, for some reason, the Azerbaijani activist tried to steal that poster in particular,” Abrahamyan said.

Nevertheless, nobody was apprehended after the clashes. Abrahamyan also stated that the police were following the protest and responded in a rather operative manner. Abrahamyan also said the Armenian Community Council of the United Kingdom doesn’t know if the Azerbaijani community will hold new protests or not.
