Russia's defense minister Sergey Shoygu had phone talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov, a military-diplomatic source told RIA Novosti.

The phone call was initiated by Baku. The sides discussed the relationship and cooperation of the military departments of the two countries.

Shoygu briefed Hasanov on the sudden check of the combat readiness of the troops that kicked off on Friday.

The Russian defense minister noted this is a planned event which has nothing to do with the current situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.
