The number of deaths among those infected with a new type of coronavirus in Iran increased by 229 per day and exceeded 14.6 thousand, the country's health ministry spokesperson Sima Sadat Lari noted.

Lari said on Tuesday that some 229 more Iranians have died from COIVD-19 disease in a day bringing the total deaths to 14,634, IRNA reported.

According to her, a total of 278,827 Iranians have tested positive for COVID-19, some 242,351 of whom have recovered and discharged from the hospitals.

She added that 3,589 other COVID-19 patients are in critical condition.
