During a briefing today, Spokesperson of the United Nations Secretary-General Stephane Dujjaric told reporters that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had contacted leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev and urged them to solve the situation immediately, RIA Novosti reports.

Dujarric said this morning, Mr. Guterres talked to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, and during the phone talks, the Secretary-General expressed his concern about the reports on the military operations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Dujarric added that the Secretary-General reiterated his call for immediate and full de-escalation.

According to Dujarric, Guterres also called on the two countries’ leaders to refrain from provocative rhetoric and return to the negotiating table.
