Aliyev’s administration and Aliyev personally have recently been making illogical statements, even statements that aren’t in their interests, and the recent statement is one of those statements. This is what deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Mikayel Zolyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, touching upon President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s statement addressed to the Armenian authorities, telling the authorities “to fight face-to-face with us, we’ll see who wins”.

“I really don’t understand what Aliyev means by this. If he is referring to the fact that other forces are helping Armenia, say Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, it was his propaganda that claimed that the CSTO isn’t helping Armenia,” Zolyan said.

Asked if the adversary will be limited to statements or will try to cause tension on the border again, the deputy of the ruling party said there will still be tension and that Armenia needs to be ready for more provocations. However, he doesn’t think Azerbaijan will unleash a large-scale war because if Azerbaijan believed it could solve the issue by force, it would have made an attempt. Zolyan added that after these incidents, it has to be clear to them that any large-scale military operation will lead to dire consequences for the country.

Touching upon Aliyev’s discontent with the talks and his criticism of the OSCE Minsk Group, Zolyan stated that if we ask Aliyev, the whole world is to blame, except for him.

Based on the society’s attitude during the tension on the border, Zolyan notes that the people unite when there is an external danger and hopes this will continue in the long-run and won’t be surprising anymore.
